Bowmore vuonna Port Charlotte

Bowmore (äännetään "bu'moor") on skotlantilainen viskitislaamo, joka sijaitsee Islayn saarella Loch Indaalin kaakkoisrannalla. Bowmore on yksi vanhimmista toiminnassa olevista viskinvalmistajista; sen kerrotaan aloittaneen vuonna 1779. Tislaamon omistaa holding-yhtiö Morrison Bowmore Distillers Ltd, jonka omistaja on vuodesta 1994 ollut japanilainen juoma-alan yritys Suntory. Morrison Bowmore omistaa myös Auchentoshanin ja Glen Gariochin tislaamot ja tuottaa McClelland's Single Malt -mallasviskisarjaa.

Bowmoren viskeissä käytetään Lagganjoen vettä ja tislaamo käyttää osittain edelleen perinteistä lattiamallastamoa, 40% Bowmoren käyttämästä ohrasta mallastetaan itse. Loput tuotetaan Port Ellenin mallastamolla. Bowmoren mallasviskituotemerkkejä ikämerkittyjen tuotteiden lisäksi ovat muun muassa Enigma, Legend, Surf ja Darkest.

One of three distilleries on Islay (and six in Scotland) that malt their own barley; the others are Kilchoman and Laphroaig. This makes the tour a bit more interesting.

Very well located in Bowmore. Nice hall with the Black Bowmores displayed. Nice lounge to taste the whiskies.

Go upstairs in the visitor centre and enjoy one of the nice whiskies produced here. Or take the Craftsmen tour for a very detailed tour of the premises including a visit inside the kiln and warehouse.
